Teachers review PlayAblo for Schools

Introduction of technology products and solutions in schools for the most part is a top down decision. A detailed evaluation and assessment of a number of potential products is led by the Principal, the Chief Education Officer, Head of Curriculum and the Head of Departments. Recommendation is made to the Management Committee and decision carried through. This is played out in tens of thousands of schools across the country every year. However, the success of the product is any but top-down.

In our experience and those of our peers in the space, the success of any school centric solution is firmly hinged on two key stakeholders who are rarely intimately involved in the decision making on whether to even introduce an EdTech product and what product to choose. These stakeholders are: School students and the Teachers.

About PlayAblo:
PlayAblo’s school solution provides schools an alternative to the paper-based worksheets. The product’s current avatar is focused on the primary grades (1st to 5th) covering Math, English Grammar and Communicative English (powered by Carnegie Speech®). We have over 100,000 in built assessment Q&A covering practically every education board curriculum in India. We use gamified experience to ensure exceptionally high level of engagement amongst students leading to 4 to 5 time more problem attempts and practices when compared to paper-based worksheets. As Practice Makes Perfect, PlayAblo is easily able to demonstrate the
improvement of Learning Outcomes of even the usually under-performing students.

In the nearly five years of our work with the school ecosystems we have consistently been able to demonstrate solid and sustained engagement of the students year after year. However, for the first time this year (academic year 2019-20) we decided to seek formal and anonymous feedback from the other key stakeholder that defines the success of EdTech products in the schools. The schoolteachers. This article shares with public the results of this feedback survey. A total of 77 teachers participated in this year’s survey. We asked them four pointed questions based upon their experience with a minimum of a yearlong experience with PlayAblo’s school solution. Here are the four questions we asked them:

  1. What is the engagement level of students on PlayAblo?
  2. Does PlayAblo help improve student performance in school assessments?
  3. Are the insights on PlayAblo’s teacher dashboard helpful?
  4. How do you rate the support provided by PlayAblo for your queries?

These questions were designed to take a multi-dimensional view of the environment that the teachers work in. At one end they need to ensure the meaningful engagement level of students in these times where distractions abound (Question A). While at the other end they are under the constant scrutiny of the parents and school management that is looking for a clear quantifiable improvement in the students’ performance (Question B). Finally, all this is possible only if the teachers themselves are enpowered with the right data (Question C) and effectively and timely supported on the product usage and query resolutions (Question D). Here are the aggregated results of these questions.

The above question was designed to determine if the practice on PlayAblo had any meaningful impact on the students’ performance in school’s own assessments. Nearly all teachers agreed that PlayAblo helped students perform better in school assessments.

C. Are the insights on PlayAblo’s teacher dashboard helpful?

One of the main advantages of automating the process of worksheets is that the data can be sliced and diced in multitudes of ways providing insights into the individual as well as aggregate performances of students and classes. The teacher dashboard provides the teachers visual charts to depict the trend of their class performances along the ability to do deep dive into the performances of individual students. This is critical information that the teacher needs to be able to take remedial actions right when the help is needed.

D. How do you rate the support provided by PlayAblo for your queries?

Finally, this question explored the effectiveness of PlayAblo’s Success Team to train, troubleshoot and resolve queries from the teachers as and when they arise. Not all schoolteachers are adept at handling technology comfortably and need both initial as well as ongoing support to adopt and adapt to PlayAblo’s technology led alternative to the traditional paper worksheets. Our success team’s attention on helping the teachers succeed in their roles continues to put us in favour amongst one of the most important stakeholders in the school ecosystem.

This report is a summary of PlayAblo’s annual survey for teachers who used PlayAblo at their schools.

77 Teachers participated in this optional and anonymous survey for the Academic Year 2019-20.
